Flood Risk Management Highlights in The Netherlands

See some of the sublime highlights of Dutch Flood Risk Management, The Maeslantkering. The Storm Surge Barrier New Waterway formed the final piece of the Delta works and thanks to the storm surge barrier, about one million people in South-Holland are protected from the sea. The Maeslant barrier is indispensable, in many ways and will probably become increasingly important to the protection of Rotterdam and its surroundings in the near future, as the sea water continues to rise.

The Oosterscheldekering is a turning point in Dutch history with water. Never before had so many institutions collaborated to complete this massive building project. The storm surge barrier of the Oosterschelde is, without doubt, the most impressive storm surging structure in the Netherlands. Other flood barriers can be found in the 'Hollandsche IJssel' and the 'Nieuwe Waterweg'. Enjoy this tour in the company of other FLOODrisk 2012 attendants and expert guides who will accompany the tours. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Participation will be on Friday 23rd November and will take place from 10am - 6pm.

Cost: €70.00

Flood Risk Management Highlights in Greater Rotterdam Area

The Mills at Kinderdijk are not only a marvellous feat in the Dutch polder history, they are also a significant cultural historic landmark. On this tour you will see the mills in all their glory.

The city of Dordrecht is sometimes called the "bathtub", referring to its low lying polder and its surrounding waters. The city is extremely active in persuing optimal flood safety for now and in the future and it doesn't shy away from innovative measures. Visit this wonderful historic town with small typically Dutch streets.

On a clear day, it is possible to see the city of The Hague from the Euromast and if the weather is cooperative in the days after the conference, then you will have a chance to see all the waterworks in the Rotterdam area from the height of 185 meters above the ground.

Participation will be on Friday 23rd November and will take place from 1pm - 7pm.

Cost: €55.00
